The bed tax in St Johns County has been compared to many things over its 28-year run, some good and some not so good. A quick look at local comments from readers on several media forums range from praise to demonization; with some comments implying that if you question the “tax that you don’t pay” you are being un-American.
Nopetro, the seven-year-old compressed natural gas promoter based in Coral Gables, announced today that they have received a “notice of intent to award” from St. Johns County indicating that they have the green light to move forward with plans to build and operate a $2 million fueling station on State Road 16 at their expense — if the county buys 100,000 gallons of fuel the first year and 125,000 gallons in following years.
St Johns County reported to Historic City News that, during the current fiscal year, juvenile offenders were held in custody a total of 826 days before their cases were disposed. Under the terms of an agreement, county taxpayers are legally responsible for those costs; but not the custodial costs once the case is disposed of.
