Space shuttle launch affects general aviation
Edward R. Wuellner, AAE, Executive Director of the St. Augustine and St. Johns County Airport Authority, notified Historic City News of a media release from Arthur B. Ladd, DAFC, 45 Space Wing – Chief, Airspace Management, that is of special interest to the General Aviation Community, and public, concerning the scheduled upcoming shuttle launch.
A launch of the Space Shuttle Discovery, STS-124, is scheduled to take place on this Saturday, May 31, 2008.
The primary launch target is May 31, 2008 at 4:57 P.M. EDT. A 40 nautical mile radius temporary flight restriction will be in effect from 9:57 A.M. until 5:40 P.M. EDT.
If the launch is delayed, the backup launch day is June 1, 2008 at 4:34 P.M. A 40 nautical mile radius temporary flight restriction will be in effect from 9:34 A.M. until 5:15 P.M. EDT.
General Aviation aircraft and pilots should remain clear of the 40 nautical mile radius temporary flight restriction; review any posted notice to airmen and contact the appropriate flight service station or Air Traffic Control facility for the latest information.
Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association will also display latest information concerning temporary flight restrictions.
