22 arrested in operation Blue Christmas

Sgt. Chuck Mulligan reported to Historic City News this morning that deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit arrested 22 people over the last two weeks of December during a special operation targeting those individuals who continue to drive with a revoked license.

Between 15-31 December, traffic deputies participated in Operation: “Blue Christmas”. “The purpose of the operation was to apprehend those drivers who have had their driver’s license revoked due to DUI convictions and who continue to operate a motor vehicle on the streets and roadways of St. Johns County” Mulligan said.

At the present time, there are more than two thousand five hundred (2500) residents of St. Johns County who have had their privilege to drive revoked due to a DUI conviction. Many others are continuing to drive due to other suspensions and revocations as well. Deputies focused on the worst of the worst during the two week period.

St. Johns County Sheriff David Shoar said “It is extremely important to keep those individuals who have had their driving privilege revoked off the road” and added “The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is committed to removing these offenders before they can cause property damage and needless injury or death to themselves or others.”

During Operation “Blue Christmas” a member of the Traffic Unit staged near the offender’s residence and or known areas that the violator frequents in an attempt to catch him or her driving a motor vehicle. Deputies utilized DL photos for current photographs of the offender with current addresses and vehicle information. All of those arrested were charged with at least driving on a suspended or revoked license and were released from jail following first appearance hearings on bonds ranging from $200 to $1,000.
