Fire Department warns about phony solicitors

Historic City News has received a warning from the St. Augustine Fire Department prompted by reports of door-to-door and telephone solicitors who are stating that they represent the fire department when in fact they do not.

Fire Chief Mike Arnold stated, “If a solicitor identify themselves as collecting funds for the St. Augustine Fire Department, it is fraudulent and should be reported immediately to the St. Augustine Police Department.”

Arnold said that the SAFD solicits contributions from the public once yearly for the Muscular Dystrophy Association when firefighters ‘Fill the Boot.’ He continued that the firefighters also contribute their time during this one day campaign which is held at strategic street corners within the city.
