The local St. Augustine news desk has learned that at sometime between about 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning, a Matanzas Boulevard residence was burglarized.
Police Corporal Charles Simpson responded to the scene this weekend and determined that the point of entry to the house was a sliding glass door.
The 85 year-old victim and his wife were out of the house and returned to find that a jewelry box had been moved from a dresser to the floor.
The couple noticed that the drawers in the dresser had been opened. They walked through the rest of the house with Corporal Simpson, but stated nothing else seemed to be disturbed.
The victims listed a set of cuff links ($50), assorted earrings ($50), 3 pearl necklaces ($650), turquoise necklace ($200), a diamond ring ($500), a wedding band ($100), and a pillow case, likely used to carry off the “loot”, were all missing.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that evidence was taken from the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
