According to reports from FCSO public information officer Debra Johnson and SJSO public information officer Chuck Mulligan, the caller asks for financial donations to a “Christmas for Kids” program that the caller claims is being sponsored by the Sheriff’s Office. The caller then asks for credit card information for the donation.
Calls in both counties are originating from the 904 area code.
Neither sheriff’s office conducts telephone solicitations for money.
“Anyone receiving these calls should hang up. This is a scam,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. “It is unfortunate that someone is trying to take money that could legitimately go to local organizations that provide services to families in need.”
To report fraudulent activity, in Flagler County call (386) 313-4911 or in St. Johns County call (904) 829-8304.
