New law further restricts sex offenders

A new law was announced to local reporters at Historic City News that bans sex offenders from going within 300 feet of parks and schools, and from loitering in areas where children play was signed into law and took effect yesterday according to an announcement from the office of Governor Charlie Crist.

Historic City News local reporters were watching Monday night as Chief Operations Officer John Regan told city commissioners that he is working with Florida Representative Bill Proctor to garner support to return management of the heritage program to the city.

Representatives of the St. Augustine Alpha Xi Eta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa honor society told local St. Johns County Historic City News reporters that they presented the District Board of Trustees of St. Johns River Community College with awards received by the chapter at recent PTK regional and international conventions.

Local reporters from Historic City News have learned that musicians Will Conner and Eric Brigmond will be performing Friday night in a concert to benefit Keepers of the Coast; a local non-profit marine conservation organization.

Historic City News reporters were updated this morning by the Office of the Secretary of Defense with predictions that the Gulf of Mexico oil spill could soon reach levels on par with the 250,000 barrels of crude oil lost in the 1989 Exxon Valdez tanker spill.
