Molly Ebersold reported to Historic City News this morning that the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park will offer special animal feeding events and holiday hours for the 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Goes Wild event.
“We are continuing a Thanksgiving tradition for St. Augustine families and visitors,” Ebersold told reporters. “Zoo visitors will be able to watch the legendary Maximo jump for a turkey.”
The special feeding sessions give visitors a chance to watch alligators munch on chicken and squash and see Galapagos tortoises enjoy a special Thanksgiving treat.
The zoo will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Black Friday, November 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional holiday hours are Christmas Day 10 to 4 and New Years Day 10 to 4.
Alligator feedings take place at noon and serve as enrichment for the animals as well as allowing zoo guests to witness unique, natural foraging techniques.
Maximo’s feeding is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on both days.
