Robert Samuels announced to Historic City News local reporters that food tasters “came out in droves” to get mini bites of some of the beaches best restaurants for the “Taste of the Beach” that was held Sunday, May 15th at the St. Augustine Pier.
A portion of the proceeds from the event support the Betty Griffin House; they raised $6,838 from this year’s event.
“What a beautiful day it was,” Samuels told Historic City News Editor Michael Gold. “We hope you can join us again next year.”
Recently, Samuels, who is President of the event’s host organization, St. Augustine Beach Civic Association, presented a check to Joyce Mahr, the Executive Director of Betty Griffin House. Mike Cunningham, Andrea Samuels – Secretary, Police Chief Richard Hedges, Bill Jones – Vice President, Frank Ward – Treasurer and Board member Mike Longstreet participated in the check presentation.
Winners in the five categories were as follows:
Appetizer: 1st place went to the Crab King for his crab cakes; Amici Italian Restaurant, 2nd place; Antonio’s Grill, 3rd place.
Entree: South Beach Grille, 1st place for its blackened shrimp with cheese grits; Wildflower Cafe, 2nd place; The Purple Olive, 3rd place.
Dessert competition: 1st place went to The Purple Olive for its Chocolate Gecko Cake; Amici, 2nd place; Dunes Cracker House, 3rd place.
People’s Choice category: The Purple Olive, 1st place; Panama Hatties, 2nd place; Sunset Grille, 3rd place.
Judge’s Choice category: The Purple Olive, 1st place; Sunset Grille, 2nd place; Napoli Pizza, 3rd place.
