Historic City News readers are cautioned that, during a hurricane or tropical storm, if it becomes necessary to evacuate the beaches, only residents with proper identification will be allowed to cross the Mickler-O’Connell Bridge (SR-312) or the Bridge of Lions.
“We are at the beginning of hurricane season,” Police spokesman Mark Samson told Historic City News. “Residents and business owners of Davis Shores and Anastasia Island should be prepared with an identification placard available at the St. Augustine Police Department.
The orange or green placards hang from the rear-view mirror of your vehicle and allow law enforcement officers to identify you at a distance. When it is safe to do so, you can be directed to pass across the appropriate bridge and return to the island.
If you do not already have a placard, you can stop by the police department at 151 King Street and pick one up by showing your Florida identification card or Florida driver’s license. There is no charge for the placard.
