Today, Norman Natural Horsemanship owner, Cindy Norman, reminded Historic City News Editor Michael Gold that there is no government bailout, or subsidy program, to help starving, abused or homeless horses.
“In the last few years, we have witnessed an increase in the number of horses needing our help and a decrease in the resources available to help them,” Norman said. “Perhaps you have seen them, standing alone in abandoned pastures, with bones protruding through their skins, or worse yet read about them after it is too late.”
There is a group of local citizens, and vendors, gathering this week-end to raise funds and bring awareness to the community of our local equine rescue groups and resources available when times get tough for our equine friends.
“Horse people”, as Norman says we are sometimes called, are typically very generous folks. “We know how to work together to support a multiple of good causes – including rescue groups for different species.”
On Saturday, April 16th, at the Southside Saddle Club on Greenbriar Road, from 10 AM until 4 PM the public is invited to bring their families out for a day of springtime fun. There will be horse carriage rides, a horse clinic and “play day” in the arena, vets, farriers, pet and people photographers, horse and dog trainers, tack and feed stores, rescue groups for horses – as well as for dogs, cats and even birds.
There will also be animals available for adoption on site.
The Southside Saddle Club has graciously donated their facility to host our First Annual Equine Community Appreciation Event. All proceeds from the activities including $1.00 raffle tickets for 5 “bales” of hay or bags of feed, to $40.00 for the horse clinic and play day, will be donated to the participating equine rescue groups.
“If you are interested in helping us to “bale” out our local rescue groups, please join us this Saturday,” Norman quipped.
