Fruit Cove resident killed by unsecured trailer

FHP Lieutenant Bill Leeper reported to Historic City News that Lina S. Mourad of 1459 Mallard Landing Boulevard in Fruit Cove was struck and killed by a sod trailer as it traveled north along County Road 13 yesterday morning.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol Report, the trailer detached from the 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck around 10:00 a.m. close to the Davis Pond Boulevard intersection — striking the 51 year-old woman while she was walking on the sidewalk.

Public Information Officer Jeremy Robshaw reported to Historic City News that Mourad was transported by St. Johns County Fire Rescue to Baptist South Hospital “in critical condition”.

The 17 year-old pickup truck driver has not been yet been charged, however, Florida Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation of the traffic homicide.
