The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office informed Historic City News local reporters that, today, their Special Investigations Unit concluded a two-phase operation titled “Operation-Spring Fever”.
The mission of today’s operation was to apprehend as many illegal distributors of controlled substances identified in the first phase of the investigation; as could be located. Of the twenty-two targeted individuals, thirteen were located and arrested this morning.
The investigation began after numerous citizen complaints of illegal drug activity — primarily in the central, southern and western quadrants of St. Johns County.
During the first phase, confidential informants and undercover officers from St. Johns, Flagler and
Putnam counties targeted the most active street-level cocaine base distributors, prescription medication distributors and marijuana distributors.
The undercover narcotics transactions occurred over the past four months. During this phase, cocaine base was purchased as well as prescription medication and marijuana from known narcotics distributors. At the conclusion of the first phase, arrest warrants were obtained for those involved in the illegal narcotics transactions.
The majority of those distributors targeted have previous drug convictions.
During the second phase of the operation that took place today, members of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office COPS Unit, Warrants Unit and detectives were assigned to arrest teams and provided information regarding those to be apprehended.
