Coming before the St. Augustine City Commission on Monday evening, Historic City News will hear more details from Police Chief Loran Lueders about a request his department has received to feature police rookies in a professionally produced show, if it is approved.
“Our rookies could become movie stars,” joked Chief Lueders.
“A production company out of California has contacted us about doing a show on rookie cops in a tourist setting,” Lueders says.
Although nothing has been finalized at this point, Lueders reported that the concept is to produce a human interest story — “more than a cop show”.
St. Augustine police officers face a wide range of challenges unique to law enforcement in the nation’s oldest city. The producers have expressed interest in showing how new officers learn to deal with people and their job.
If you are planning to attend — the regular St. Augustine City Commission meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday and will be held in the Alcazar Room; on the first floor of City Hall, located at 75 King Street in St. Augustine. It will be broadcast live on Comcast Government TV (Cable Channel 3) and is streamed over the Internet.
