Spanish Living History Day at Castillo

NPS Ranger Jake Harper invited Historic City News readers to visit and participate in “Spanish Living History Day” on Saturday, October 1st at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument on the bayfront in St. Augustine.

Harper says that he hopes to have 1740 Spanish-period cooking demonstrations, along with medical displays and interpretation in the fort’s supply room; all part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.

The park service will have cannon firing, marching and musket demonstrations.

“I am looking forward to seeing as many soldiers, militia, sailors, and other heritage re-enactor volunteers possible to come by and help us interpret life in colonial St. Augustine,” Harper said. “This will be an all-day event.”

For living history volunteers, Harper says, within reason, Castillo staff can help with any specific display you may want to set up, or specific thing you want to interpret.
