Van Dyke named Student of the Month

The Kiwanis Club of Historic St. Augustine announced that last week they recognized a local St. Augustine High School student as their “Student of the Month”, according to an announcement received by Historic City News.

Van Dyke participates in the Advanced International Certificate of Education program overseen by Cambridge International Examinations. Successful completion of the program within a thirteen-month period confers a Cambridge AICE Diploma. Students earning the diploma in Florida qualify for the “Florida Bright Futures” 100% tuition scholarship.

18 year-old Anastasia Van Dyke is a senior at the local high school and she has excelled in her academic studies. With a current weighted grade-point average of 4.6, Historic City News was informed that she is ranked number 1 among SAHS students.

High School Principal Cathy Mittelstadt, who attended the Student of the Month ceremony on October 13th, said that she was very proud of her star student’s achievements; especially her success in the AICE program which includes classes in the subject areas of mathematics and science; languages; and arts and humanities.

St. Augustine Police Commander Steve Fricke, spokesman for the local organization, informed us that Kiwanis is an international service club founded in 1915; whose primary focus is on programs for children. Current membership is 240,000 members in 7,700 clubs in 80 nations.
