Art in Public Places features Joe Taylor, Charles Dickinson and Eddie White. In April, 2011 a vision was brought to life in Hastings – to bring regional artists together with legendary Florida artist, A.E. (Beanie) Backus. The only criteria was that the artist should have a love – and body of work representing a particular region – from Elkton to East Palatka – The Potato Capital of Florida. Prints of the five murals by A.E. Backus from the Stanton Building will be on display along with the beautiful work of Joe Taylor, Charles Dickinson and Eddie White – all of whom are well known Regional Artists – the breathtaking vistas of the fields, cows, farms, skies, storms, old barns – the art is stunning. These artists have captured the region – it is “one of a kind in beauty and productivity” and they are honored to show the public the beauty of farming and the community. Don’t miss this exceptional Art Exhibit!

What if five of St. Augustine’s Spanish Colonial Mayors had Irish last names? What if the Catholic Church in Spain appointed Father Miguel O’Reilly as the Colony’s vicar? What if half of the citizens of St. Augustine can claim Irish, Scottish or other Celtic roots? What if the founder of St. Augustine, Pedro Menedez, in 1565 was from the Celtic region of Spain? What if his home town of Aviles still celebrates its Celtic roots with bagpipes and kilts? Then the question becomes: Why hasn’t St. Augustine had a Celtic Festival all along?
