Corporal Catherine Payne reported to Historic City News that a St Johns County Sheriff’s deputy is receiving medical treatment at Flagler Hospital for a violent dog bite to his leg that occurred within the past hour.
“We are on scene in the 2600 block of Isabella Avenue where a dog was shot by deputies,” Payne told reporters. “The deputies were responding to a verbal altercation when the dog came out of the residence, attacking one of the deputies by biting his leg.”
The deputy who suffered the attack was the officer who shot the dog. Payne did not identify the deputy.
Responding deputies transported the dog to an emergency veterinarian clinic. The dog is being evaluated at this time.
There has been no decision at this time regarding any possible criminal charges. “We are in the infancy stages of the investigation,” Payne said.
