Period re-enactors are needed to interpret 1743 operations of the Spanish tower that stands guard over the Matanzas Inlet during an upcoming “Spanish Torchlight Tours” event planned for Saturday January 26, 2013 at the Fort Matanzas National Monument.
Ranger Chris Leverett is asking Historic City News readers interested in volunteering to sign up for this casting call before Wednesday January 23rd. Ranger Leverett can be contacted at (904) 471-0116.
“The year is 1743 and the Siege in 1740 is still fresh in the Spanish soldier’s minds,” Leverett told reporters. “The newly constructed watchtower has been completed and ready for some time; while the possibility of a British incursion still lingers.”
Those participating will man various assigned locations at the watchtower to assist the visiting guests from the city.
The first Torchlight Tour starts January 26th at 6:00 p.m. Volunteers need to show up any time before 5:00 p.m. “All are welcome to spend all day at the park if they want,” Leverett said.
