Paul Williamson informed local Historic City News reporters today that the City of St Augustine will close Artillery Lane to through-traffic beginning Wednesday on a “trial basis”.
The section of the narrow street that runs behind Trinity Parish Episcopal Church will only be open to local traffic entering and exiting onto St George Street.
At its juncture with Aviles Street, wooden posts will be installed on Artillery Lane and act as barricades to prevent vehicles from proceeding further.
The portion of Artillery Lane that remains open to traffic will be made two-way; and, to accommodate the new traffic pattern, two parking spaces on the street will be taken out of service.
Following the trial period, expected to last until the end of the year, an evaluation will be made to determine if the closure should be permanent.
