Shortly after 9:30 a.m. this morning, a yet unidentified man crashed into a cedar tree along East Park Avenue in St Augustine; resulting in severe damage to his late model Hyundai and forcing first responders to extricate him from the vehicle employing “the jaws of life”.
The victim suffered serious injuries in the crash but is reported to be in stable condition at Flagler Hospital at this time. The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle, according to the incident report.
Police, fire and rescue personnel were on the scene minutes after the single-car collision occurred and quickly determined that the only way for the driver to escape, was to cut him out of his car.
According to witnesses at the scene, the car had been going “very fast” when it hit the tree. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
It has not been determined if alcohol was a factor, no charges have been filed. The driver was wearing his seatbelt.
