Dear Editor and Port Observers,
Some notes about your Port from Tuesday’s meeting June 19 2012
Commissioner Tom Rivers addressed the board. He’s been advised by the Supervisor of Elections that running for St Johns School Board requires his immediate resignation from the Port board, which he’s done.
Among many other services, Tom championed the establishment of third Tuesday of every month as THE meeting date for the Port.
Port has $1.6M in our new bank, BB&T.
Salt Run marker #1 is back in place, having been knocked down a few months back.
The floating dock at the Vilano fishing pier should be in operation shortly, when County signage gets posted advising liability disclaimers.
St Johns County beaches are alive and well, as reflected by the sale of season passes and special weekend passes. A conservative one million users are enjoying the beaches each year. Five full time sheriff’s deputies are assigned along with county personnel to keep the beaches safe, attractive, and readily accessible by residents and visitors.
Memorial Day weekend saw plenty of weather action and challenging boating conditions.
Your FWC, local police and sheriff’s office will again be on call for the upcoming 4th of July.
Your Port commission adjourned at 4:15, perhaps a new record for brevity.
Pleasant times on the water,
Jay Bliss
Port Commissioner Seat 5
