Last night Historic City News learned that a 52 year-old Brandon woman underwent surgery for gunshot wounds at Halifax Medical Center after being transported, by air, from a hunting camp on County Road 305 in West Flagler County.
Lisa Simmons and her boyfriend, 52 year-old Stevn Egan, were hog hunting at the Cowart Hunt Camp when, shortly before 7:30 p.m., Egan observed and shot at a hog in the woods outside the couple’s tent.
According to the incident report filed by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Egan left the tent to search — but was unable to locate the hog.
Egan told deputies that as he was returning to the tent, he heard a noise in the woods.
Unaware that Simmons had come outside of the tent during his absence, and, thinking that the rustling sound was being made by the hog, he shot again with his .30 caliber rifle.
Unfortunately, Egan accidently struck Simmons with the bullet penetrating both of her upper legs.
Simmons’ condition is unknown at this time. The investigation is continuing; however, the shooting incident is believed to have been accidental.
