This week, St Johns County Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oaks completed her “Public Manual Audit” of the official ballots cast during the August 14, 2012 Primary Election and was pleased to report to Historic City News that the overall accuracy of the audit was 100%.
The local canvassing board is required, by section 101.591, Florida Statutes, to perform a manual audit of one randomly selected precinct to determine the degree of accuracy of the results published following elections.
The selected precinct election was Precinct 508 – the Elks Lodge precinct located at 1420 A1A South in St Augustine.
The District 17 Republican State Representative race was audited by taking a hand count of the 807 ballots cast at the precinct, voted absentee, voted early and provisional ballots.
When compared against actual election results, Oakes said they matched exactly, without error. Historic City News editor Michael Gold joking asked if our newly elected Supervisor was surprised by that outcome. She simply replied, “Nope” and then smiled.
A report of the audit will be filed with the Division of Elections.
