A 40 year-old man has been located and arrested in connection with a recent robbery of an elderly Clay County man that occurred on April 14th at the Cracker Barrel located at 2441 SR-16, according to information received by Historic City News in St Augustine.
The victim told deputies that the robber approached him in the bathroom, pushed him, reached into his pocket and removed his wallet.
Detectives located another wallet at the crime scene that was dropped at the scene by the suspect, according to a witness. The wallet contained identification that led to the identification of 40 year-old Gregory Jeffries.
Kevin Kelshaw told reporters today that Jeffries fled from the restroom and continued into the parking lot, where bystanders attempted to detain him, according to the incident report. Jeffries was able to break free and ran toward SR-16; where authorities believe he was picked up by an awaiting vehicle.
With the assistance of the US Marshal Service, Jeffries was tracked to a location in Broward County, where he was taken into custody.
