At around 4:15 am this morning, Trooper Dennis Shorter reported to Historic City News in St Augustine that a single-vehicle collision occurred along International Golf Parkway; when a Ponte Vedra Beach man, operating his motorcycle, failed to negotiate a sharp curve.
The 37 year-old driver, Willie R. Lewis, was transported to Shands Hospital Jacksonville in “serious” condition, according to the incident report.
When Lewis entered onto the right shoulder of the road, about 2 miles east of I-95, he was ejected off the motorcycle. Both he and the bike collided with a ditch, causing about $1,500 in property damage.
Charges are pending against the driver of the 2011 Suzuki motorcycle, who investigators believe was under the influence of alcohol.
The crash was discovered by St Johns County Sheriff’s Sergeant Noble; however, the amount of time that had lapsed between the crash and its discovery is not yet known. The investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol is continuing.
