New use for Alpine Groves Park

St Johns, FL
Saturday August 25th was the grand opening of the St. Johns River Farmers Market in Switzerland, Florida along the William Bartram Scenic Highway.
This is a weekly Saturday market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. located at Alpine Groves Park at 2060 SR-13. The market is nestled under the welcome shade of moss draped century oaks on the St. Johns River.
The event yesterday had a strong vendor showing and was well supported by customers.
There was an excellent cross section of goods available at the market including: locally produced honey, grass fed beef, cheeses, plants, fruits and vegetables, homemade jellies and jams, baked goods, coffee, orchids, cut flowers, crab cakes, barbecue and a range of hand crafted gifts.
The event was well attended by families and people of all ages and was a great place to see old friends and make new ones.
The market is managed by the North Florida Vendors Association.
Many of the market customers were regular visitors of Alpine Groves Park, but others were enjoying it for the first time. Alpine Grove amenities include a partially restored farmhouse, dock on the St. Johns River, kayak launch, walking trails, playground and butterfly gardens.
Some of the proceeds from the market will be reinvested in the park, much to the delight of the recently formed Friends of Alpines Groves Park.
