School District names award recipients

The St Johns County School District announced to local Historic City News reporters that Fruit Cove Middle School principal, Steve McCormick, and Ponte Vedra High School assistant principal, Jewel Johnson, have been selected to receive this year’s principal and assistant principal achievement awards.

This annual program honors principals and assistant principals who utilize teamwork and leadership skills to increase student performance, establish partnerships with parents and community members, and promote safe learning environments.

“Steve is very deserving of this honor,” said Superintendent Dr. Joseph Joyner. “His work at Fruit Cove Middle has been stellar and he serves as a fine example of outstanding leadership.”

These two St Johns County nominations will be forwarded to the state where the nominees will compete at the regional level. The statewide winner in each category will be announced this fall.

“Jewell is one of the most energetic and positive assistant principals I have ever worked with,” said Joyner. “She faces any challenge with a high degree of professionalism and competence. The demands on our assistant principals seem to increase every year, but Jewell Johnson consistently provides an example of superior leadership.”

Awardees are recognized for ethical leadership and their use of innovative technology, as well as their commitment to forging personal, social, economic, and cultural relationships in the classroom, the school and the community to build and support a learning organization focused on student success.
