Park-to-Pantry Food Drive starts Thursday

Historic City News in St Augustine has learned that the first annual “Park-to-Pantry Food Drive”, to help local food pantries, will begin this Thursday, December 20, at the visitor center of Fort Mose Historic State Park.

Visitors through December 31, 2012 can support the “Park-to-Pantry Food Drive” by bringing non-perishable canned or packaged food items to the park.

“Each food donor will receive a homemade craft kit, containing materials and instructions on how to make your very own colonial inspired toy,” said Park Service Specialist Terri Newmans. If you will help us fight hunger this holiday season we have the perfect gift for you.”

The “Park-to-Pantry Food Drive” is sponsored by Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Fort Mose Historic State Park in partnership with the Fort Mose Historical Society.

Drop-off hours are Thursday – Monday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Donations cannot be accepted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays when the visitor center is closed. One kit per donation while supplies last.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, Fort Mose Historic State Park tells the story of Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose, the first legally sanctioned, free African settlement in what is now the United States.
