Provisional ballots counted tomorrow

When Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes convenes the three-member Canvassing Board tomorrow morning, provisional ballots from 338 St Johns County voters will be tabulated; enabling Oakes to be meet the deadline to certify the “unofficial election results” before noon on Saturday.

Although registered voters cast their ballots before 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, there are still steps that need to be performed before the entire election process is complete. Historic City News reporters will be on hand at 10:00 a.m. in the Elections Office in St Augustine as the provisional ballots are inspected and counted.

“I am thankful our election went smoothly,” Oakes told reporters. “I attribute the success to a great staff and dedicated poll workers; some of whom have volunteered with this office for many years.”

The Canvassing Board will convene again at 4:00 p.m. on November 16, when overseas absentee ballots cast for Federal offices will be tabulated.

The Supervisor of Elections must certify the “official election results” by noon on November 18.

Canvassing board activities are open to all candidates, representatives of political parties, the press and the public. A public inspection of ballots and manual audit will be held at 9:00 a.m. on November 21, 2012 at the Elections Office.
