St Augustine Police informed Historic City News this evening that a customer of the Winn-Dixie Marketplace located at 3551 North Ponce De Leon Boulevard was attacked and robbed at knifepoint by a homeless man living in the woods behind the grocery store.
Police officer Chris Miller responded to a call from a female shopper at about 7:00 p.m. who reported that she had been punched in the face and her plastic bag of groceries taken by a white man wielding a knife who threatened to stab her.
Miller reported that he observed a man who matched the description provided by the victim. The man ran away from the area toward the wooded area of the transient camp behind Winn-Dixie.
Miller gave chase and captured 26-year-old Matthew Morris, who was positively identified by the victim at the scene.
Morris was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.
He was transported to the St Johns County Detention Facility without incident.
