St Augustine Attorney Terry Shoemaker reported to Historic City News today that he has notified the Florida Division of Elections that he would be a candidate for State Attorney in the 7th Judicial Circuit of Florida.
Shoemaker, now in private practice in St Augustine, had a 100 % felony conviction rate while serving as an Assistant State Attorney from 2003 until 2007.
“Great communities are safe places to live and work,” Shoemaker told reporters. “As State Attorney, I will wake up every morning knowing that job #1 is keeping our families safe.”
The office of State Attorney is the chief prosecutor and administrator in the circuit in which they serve. The 7th Judicial Circuit covers Flagler, Putnam, St Johns and Volusia counties with the main office being located in Daytona and offices throughout the circuit.
“My positive vision for Florida is clear,” Shoemaker said. “My job will be to keep our families safe by prosecuting those that seek to do us harm.”
The 7th Circuit State Attorney has over 200 employees with almost one hundred being attorneys in all four counties and handled almost 10,000 cases last year.
Shoemaker is a graduate of Florida Coastal School of Law, graduating as a top ten graduate. Prior to the practice of law, Shoemaker served in the United States Navy, and as a faculty member and athletic trainer. He is a member of both the St. Johns County and Florida Bar Associations.
Shoemaker and his wife, the former Teri Littlefield of Deland, have two children and live in St Augustine.
