After a 28-year-old woman crashed into a marked patrol car last night and fled the scene without stopping, Historic City News learned that deputies caught up to her; only to discover that she had been drinking and was in possession of marijuana.
A Public Service Assistant, who was assisting with traffic control at the scene of another crash, was spared injury when the impaired driver struck his patrol vehicle as she was headed southbound on I-95 near the 319 mile marker.
The driver, Erica Christine Robbins who resides at 768 Wynfield Circle in St Augustine, was located shortly after 10:15 p.m. last night — about a half-mile south of the collision.
Deputy Matthew Bellamy detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath and she refused a Field Sobriety Test. Robbins was arrested and charged with DUI. She was transported to the St Johns County Detention Facility.
Corrections Officers discovered a small bag of cannabis inside her purse during the booking process. Robbins was also charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana.
