St. Johns County District 3 Update

I hope you are doing well this holiday season! I am proud to serve as your voice of the community. Shortly after I was elected in November of 2012, the Board of County Commissioners met and identified 10 goals of the Commission which would serve the entire community.

Those goals are:

· Increased Formal Communication with the Community

· Community Redevelopment

· County Beautification and Appearance

· Environmental Needs

· Quality of Life

· Regional Initiatives

· Infrastructure Management

· Financial Reality and Stability

· Health, Safety, and Welfare

· Economic Development

I feel it is important that I share these goals with you! As I look at items that come before the commission, I will continue to assess how each addresses our goals and will be making decisions based upon those objectives. My personal philosophies are those items that show fiscal conservatism, fiscal and government accountability, greater good, and all around transparency.

2014 Legislative Delegation

St. Johns County’s Legislative Delegation, comprised of State Representative Hutson, State Representative Ronald “Doc” Renuart, and Senator John Thrasher, recently hosted a meeting to receive public feedback regarding legislative priorities.Three St. Johns County Commissioners addressed the delegation regarding the County’s 2014 Legislative Action Plan, which lists top priorities as approved by the board, as transportation improvements, including the First Coast Outer Beltway and State Road 9B improvements, Florida Statute amendments, and water quality. The panel will now take the submitted information into consideration during the upcoming 2014 Legislative Session. TPO Transportation Survey

The North Florida Transportation Planning Organization (TPO) is conducting a survey of transportation-related issues to assist with the development of a regional long-range transportation plan. Please take the survey to provide feedback regarding your transportation issues, how gas prices affect the choices you make, and how you believe transportation investments should be funded.Every five years, the TPO updates the Long Range Transportation Plan to address road, transit, freight, bike, and pedestrian needs over the next 20 to 25 years. Stocking Stuffer Beach Parking Passes at Preseason Prices

Dreaming of a white sand Christmas? Don’t let the waves pass you by this holiday season! St. Johns County is offering Beach Parking Passes at pre-season prices of $30 for County residents and $40 for non-residents.

A perfect present for the holidays, these passes are available for purchase during standard business hours December 14-23 at the St. Johns County Pier and Beach Services office, and December 16-23 at the Tax Collector’s office and the Recreation and Parks office. Discounted passes will be available at all locations through February 28. Beginning March 1, 2014, prices will increase by $10 and passes will only be available at beach toll booths. St. Johns Golf Club December Specials

The St. Johns Golf Club is offering several promotions through the end of the year including $20 Sundays, a monthly Range Ball Program, and additional discounts for active U.S. military personnel. On Sundays, golfers are invited to play 18 holes with a cart for only $20 and 9 holes for only $15. The Range Ball Program gives residents a limited monthly range pass of two bags of balls per day for $65, and an unlimited pass for $100.Those on active military duty will receive a 20 percent discount off greens fees when military identification is shown, with the discount increasing to 40 percent on Mondays. Located on S.R. 207 just west of the I-95 intersection, the SJGC offers golfers 18 well-maintained, championship holes for players of all ages and skills. Medical Examiner Recognized with Accreditation

The National Association of Medical Examiners recently honored the St. Johns County Medical Examiner’s Office with accreditation recognizing the agency for meeting or exceeding national performance standards.Charged with providing crucial services that touch St. Johns County families during some of the most sensitive and vulnerable times in their lives, the office determines the cause and manner of death under circumstances that include homicides, suicides, accidental deaths, traffic fatalities, suspicious deaths, and infant deaths. Staff members conduct forensic investigations, perform autopsies, issue death certificates, and work closely with various tissue and organ procurement agencies as a service to the families in the community. The office is one of only seven in Florida, and 65 throughout the United States, to have accomplished the goal.

Library Food for Fines Program Provides Holiday Meals

St. Johns County Public Libraries are offering patrons the opportunity to resolve overdue fines and help those in need this holiday season through the “Food for Fines” program. Library staff will accept non-perishable food items in lieu of overdue library fines from November 4 through December 21. All donations will be delivered to the St. Johns County Food Closet for local distribution to help meet increased need for meals during the holiday season.

"A December to Remember" Holiday Events

Winter will come, even to Florida, and the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and Ponte Vedra Concert Hall are ready and waiting for residents and visitors to have family-friendly fun with the coolest entertainment and events this season during the “Community First Credit Union’s A December to Remember.” The event will feature free and ticketed events in St. Johns County throughout December including live performances, concerts, food drives, train rides, visits with Santa, a Blizzard Bounce House, and more. Notable events include movie presentations of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Elf, and It’s A Wonderful Life, a Holiday Performance of ‘Annie’, and the St. Augustine Community Chorus’s Celtic Christmas Sing Along. St. Johns County Christmas and New Year's Day Holiday Hours

All departments of the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners and St. Johns County Administrative offices will be closed December 24-26 in observance of Christmas, and January 1 in observance of the New Year’s Holiday. Please visit www.sjcfl.us to review updated schedules for the St. Johns County Library system, the Pet Center, the scale houses, garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection for each holiday.
