A New Jersey fugitive and a Pennsylvania man police say carjacked a victim in Jacksonville, were taken into custody this morning after being spotted driving the stolen vehicle on I-95 in St Johns County, according to a report received by Historic City News.
Deputy Joey Romer spotted the stolen vehicle traveling south on I-95 shortly before 4:00 a.m. this morning and gave pursuit; as the driver, 26-year-old Cory A Bellamy, exited the highway — traveling westbound on SR-16. Romer and Deputy Charles Simpkiss twice attempted to use a “pit maneuver” to stop the fleeing vehicle before forcing it to come to a stop at Toms Road. The deputies sustained minor injuries.
Bellamy and the passenger, 25-year-old Matthew J Lofton, refused to get out of the locked vehicle. Deputies broke a window on the stolen car and removed the pair at gunpoint. No shots were fired.
Jacksonville Police officers accompanied the victims of the carjacking to the scene. A positive identification was made and the two men were taken into custody and transported to the St Johns County Detention Facility at the Neil J Perry Criminal Justice Complex.
