The St Augustine and St Johns County Visitors and Convention Bureau announced to Historic City News that the NAO Victoria, one of two replicas of the vessels that traveled the coasts of Florida between the 16th and 18th centuries, arrived at the St. Augustine Municipal Marina on Monday, December 23rd.
The authentic replica tall ship, NAO Victoria, interprets the first ship to successfully circumnavigate the world; begun in 1519 under the command of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, and completed after his death, by Juan Sebastián Elcano in 1522.
The planned departure date for NAO Victoria is on February 1, 2014, but, as we saw during the first visit of its sister ship, that date is subject to change. In its day, ships like Victoria would have been used for transporting men, goods, culture and creating ties between America and Europe.
Back by popular demand, El Galeón will arrive on January 4, 2014, and plans an extended stay until July 2014.
Ship tours are available daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and tickets for both ships can be purchased from all Old Town Trolley Tours ticket locations, as well as at the miniature golf ticket booth in front of the marina or at the ship.
Pricing
– Nao Victoria – $10 for adults; $5 for youth
– El Galeón – $15 for adults; $8 for youth
– Both ships – $20 for adults; $10 for youth
