Historic City News learned that Flagler County’s new Sheriff, James L. Manfre, was sworn-in Tuesday afternoon by Circuit Court Judge Dennis Craig as a large crowd of well-wishers gathered at the Sheriff’s Operations Center in Bunnell.
Sheriff Manfre officially took office at 12:01 this morning and he wasted no time getting to work. Just after midnight, the new Sheriff and the new Undersheriff Rick Staly were at the Operations Center to swear in the agency’s law enforcement personnel who were working the overnight shift.
At noon Sheriff Manfre was himself sworn in and he asked for support as he moves the county’s largest law enforcement agency ahead for the next four years.
“I thank all of you for being here today and I look forward to leading this agency in a new direction,” said Sheriff Manfre.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the Cities of Bunnell, Flagler Beach and Palm Coast as well as Flagler County officials.
Before the administering of the oath of office, the gathering was blessed by Father Alberto Esposito of Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach.
“He is my friend and spiritual advisor,” said Sheriff Manfre.
The Sheriff is not new to the office. In the 2000 general election, Sheriff Manfre defeated Incumbent Sheriff Robert McCarthy and served in the post until 2004.
