Historic City News has learned that shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night, St Augustine Beach police and St Johns County traffic homicide detectives were called to the scene of Floridian Avenue at SR-A1A to investigate a single-vehicle-vs-pedestrian collision that left a local woman dead.
According to information provided to Historic City News by spokesman Kevin Kelshaw, 43-year-old Kimberly Dawn Jones of St Augustine stepped off the sidewalk just north of the CITGO station into the path of northbound traffic along SR-A1A.
St Johns County emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures at the scene and transported the victim to Flagler Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Colby Willey, who resides at 535 Side Creek Lane in Saint Augustine, was traveling northbound on SR-A1A. She struck and fatally wounded Jones with her vehicle when Jones entered the roadway from the east side unexpectedly.
The use of alcohol has not yet been determined to have contributed to the crash and charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation by the traffic homicide unit.
