Legislative Assistant John Kotyk informed local Historic City News reporters that St Johns County’s District 17 House member, Ronald “Doc” Renuart, has been recognized with a “2012 Florida Legislative Award” for his efforts to advance the mission of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network.
During the last legislative session in Tallahassee, Renuart became a leading voice in opposition to a bill that would have repealed required insurance coverage of bone marrow transplants in cancer patients.
“Renuart’s support this past session was a huge help to those facing a cancer diagnosis,” remarked Ryan Reid, Interim Vice President of Advocacy and Public Policy. “Doc has been a reliable and passionate advocate during his time in the House, and our volunteers appreciate his ongoing leadership at the Capitol.”
In a statement from the American Cancer Society’s advocacy affiliate, the organization said that Renuart stood up for cancer patients in need of the lifesaving treatment needed to fight the insidious disease. As a result, more people will have access to this critical procedure.
Representative Renuart, and his wife, Tamara, reside in Ponte Vedra Beach.
