Historic City News learned during a 5:30 press conference, called by St Johns County Sheriff David Shoar, that, although the investigation into the disappearance of Barbara Parchem has made “significant progress”, due to the length of time since her disappearance, foul play is suspected.
The search for the 67-year-old St Johns County woman began when she unexpectedly did not show up for work or call the Village Inn on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard. She was last seen in the early evening hours on Friday, April 5th — three weeks ago today.
“The victim’s vehicle, a 2005 red Nissan Pathfinder, has a heart, written in shoe polish, on the rear driver’s side window,” Detective Jeremy Russell told Historic City News. “We are hopeful that one of your readers may have observed the car, likely in the southwest portion of the county during the afternoon of April 5th.”
Parchem is a white female, 67 years old, 5’3” tall, 100 pounds with brown eyes, short brown hair with blonde highlights.
In the weeks following her disappearance, detectives have conducted searches by ground, air, and off-road vehicles, surrounding the area of the Parchem home located in Vermont Heights. Additional searches are intensifying in other specific areas, based on evidence received over the course of the investigation.
Her friends are offering a reward to anyone who has information leading to her whereabouts. Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office at (904) 824-8304. You can remain anonymous and possibly be eligible for a cash reward by calling CrimeStoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-TIPS (8477).
