Matchbox Twenty played to a sold out Amphitheatre in St Augustine last night; and, local Historic City News photographer, Mark Cubbedge, was part of the crowd of fans there to experience the American rock band’s indelible melodies, crafty lyricism, and glorious hooks that have defined their multi-platinum body of work.
Performers Rob Thomas (lead vocals, piano), Paul Doucette (drums, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Kyle Cook (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Brian Yale (bass guitar) have sold more than 30 million records worldwide and earned countless accolades; including five Grammy nominations, four American Music Award nods, and the 2004 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Musical Group”. They were joined with touring drummer, Stacy Jones.
Matchbox Twenty was formed in Orlando in 1995; last night’s performance, part of their 2013 Tour, celebrates the unprecedented success of the band’s first-ever chart-topper album “NORTH” which exploded into the #1 position on the SoundScan/Billboard 200 after its first week in release earlier this year.
