Vicky Oakes, Supervisor of Elections in St Johns County has a question for Historic City News readers who have requested that a ballot be mailed to them -– Have you returned your absentee ballot yet?
Over 15,000 absentee ballots have been mailed to St. Johns County voters for the April 7th Special General Election. 52-percent, or about half, have been voted and returned. This means approximately 7,000 voters still have their absentee ballots in hand.
We were recently notified of changes to the postal standards for delivery of first class mail. It is now 3-5 days. You must mail your ballot no later than Friday so it reaches the Elections Office by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, April 7, 2015.
IF YOUR BALLOT IS LATE, IT WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
There are other options for returning your voted absentee ballot to the Elections Office.
- Red absentee ballot drop boxes available through April 7th. The drop boxes are available at all public libraries, St. Aug. Beach City Hall and the Ponte Vedra & Julington Creek Tax Offices during their regular business hours. They will be picked up on Election Day (April 7th) at 5 PM.
- You may return your voted absentee ballot to any of the 6 early voting sites during early voting.
- There is also a 24 hr. absentee ballot drop box located in front of the Supervisor of Elections Office.
- Even if you received an absentee ballot, you may still choose to vote in person during early voting or at your precinct on Election Day.
Early voting continues thru April 4th. Hours are 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily at all locations: Julington Creek Annex, Ponte Vedra Branch Library, Supervisor of Elections Office, St. Augustine Beach City Hall, Southeast Branch Library, and Hastings Town Hall.
On Election Day, all 46 precincts will be open from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
We will be using the same polling places as in the previous general election. The only exception is precinct 501 which normally votes at the World Golf Village Convention Center. WGV was unavailable, so for this one election, the precinct will vote at Davidson Realty Conference Room, 100 E. Town Place, St. Augustine, located at the entrance to WGV.
