In recognition of 450-years of St Augustine’s unbroken history as the oldest continuously occupied settlement and port of European origin in the continental United States, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument will host a special “Castillo by Candlelight” event on Saturday, April 18th.
This evening program on April 18th from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. provides visitors with the experience of meeting various characters in the city’s past through the voices of the 450th Youth Ambassadors. Please plan on arriving 20-30 minutes before the start time to allow for parking.
Admission is free, but limited to tickets available on a first-come-first-served basis. Tickets may be reserved in advance at the ticket booth or by calling (904) 829-6506 ext. 232.
The 450th Youth Ambassadors are high school students from throughout St. Johns County who have been committed to assisting with St. Augustine’s 450th commemoration activities leading up to and during 2015.
Through a multi-year partnership with St. Augustine’s 450th Youth Ambassadors, the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument has a deep connection with youth preserving the heritage of this city. Through interpretive performances by the Youth Ambassadors, visitors will learn about historical figures and events that weave a story of the different legacies that individuals handed down in St. Augustine.
