Identity and Race in the Era of Slavery

Posted on 01/31/2016 By Historic City News

275-DR-LORI-LEEAssistant Professor of Anthropology at Flagler College, Dr. Lori Lee, has invited all Historic City News readers to attend a free program being presented at the Southeast Branch Library, offering insight into issues of identity and race in the 1930’s.

The St Johns County Public Library will host this installment of their popular “St Johns Reads” series on Thursday evening, February 4th, at 6:30 p.m.

The program, “Slave Narratives: Identity and Race in the Era of Slavery and the 1930’s”, discusses interviews recorded with former slaves in the 1930’s who were employed by the federal government’s Works Progress Administration.

These interviews reveal important information about the lives of enslaved people just prior to emancipation.
