Director James Troiano has updated Historic City News on the continuing investigation of this morning’s home invasion robbery that left one of the two intruders dead.
The second intruder, 19-year-old Carl Wesley Devore of 6 Cedar Court in Palm Coast, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived; however, he has now been arrested and charged with second degree felony murder and attempted home invasion robbery. He has been booked into the Flagler County Inmate Facility and is being held without bond.
Deputies and a K-9 team searched the area this morning for Devore, without success. This afternoon, he surrendered himself after coming to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Operations Center.
Historic City News first reported that the home invasion occurred at a duplex home located on Frank Place, off Old Kings Road North in Palm Coast, sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 2:15 a.m. this morning. The first intruder, found by deputies, face down on the floor inside the residence, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Director Troiano identified the dead home invader as 28-year-old Victor James Betty of 17 Cloverdale Court South, also in Palm Coast. Betty and Devore armed themselves with handguns and reportedly went to the residence to steal marijuana, according to Troiani.
But when the two men burst through the front door, one of the residents fought back; he confronted the armed assailants, and shot Betty who died at the scene.
