The St Johns County School District reported to Historic City News that, as of Friday, they have assumed administrative and operational control of First Coast Technical College.
The charter status of First Coast Technical College was terminated on June 15, 2016, by mutual agreement between the Governing Board of the college and the St Johns County School District. The college will continue in its mission to provide career, technical, and adult education to meet the changing needs of students, businesses and the workforce.
“I could not be more excited for the opportunity to serve our community in the area of post-secondary education,” Superintendent Dr. Joseph Joyner told the First Coast Technical College faculty and staff Friday morning.
A new leadership team brought in from the school district will be working with the college’s students and staff members over the next few months.
- Cathy Mittelstadt, associate superintendent for student support services, will serve as the interim principal
- Chris Force, director of career and technical programs will lead the instructional programs
- Patrick Snodgrass, director of purchasing, will oversee the operations and facilities departments
The district office tells Historic City News that the team intends to maintain all sustainable educational programs and further develop or expand offerings to meet the needs of both adult and high school students in the tri-county area.
“The St Johns County School District will continue operation of the school as a technical center with a focus on career education,” Mittelstadt told local reporters.
