Dear Historic City News editor:
I grew up here and appreciate the Disney World feel of our city, but I think there may be too many people renting scooters and three-wheeled scooters.
Historic City News received word Wednesday that activist Ed Slavin has asked St Augustine city officials to delay approval of the permit to demolish the last remaining portion of the 1920’s era Echo House building until Ron Rawls and St Pauls AME Church can show that they have filed an advanced notice required by federal and state regulations noting that the demolition involves asbestos.

Letter: Restrictions on downtown Easter parking

When the diamond-shaped “no parking” signs were placed on portable saw horses in the parking lanes of Cathedral Place and King Street on Easter Sunday, the number of available parking spaces were significantly diminished. City of St. Augustine Ordinance 24-38 relates to the towing and impounding of illegally-parked vehicles, NOT any prohibition or restriction on parking motor vehicles.
St Augustine City Commissioner Roxanne Horvath admitted to the audience during the Monday night commission meeting that she did not know what took place in the negotiations that allowed St Paul AME Church to take possession of the estate of Dr. Andrew Anderson II, but two fellow commissioners were on the board in February 2010 and recalled exactly what happened.
Deemed one of the “top ten” most threatened places in St Augustine last year by the citizens’ action group, “Citizens for the Preservation of St. Augustine, Inc.”, Ronald Rawls Jr has come to the City looking for a permit to demolish the final building of the historic 1920’s complex that at one time provided indigent African-Americans with nursing care.
