Motorcycle crash claims traffic deputy’s 16 year-old son

Posted on 07/08/201207/10/2012 By Historic City News 7 Comments on Motorcycle crash claims traffic deputy’s 16 year-old son

Historic City News was informed by Traffic Homicide Investigator, Corporal Gregory Cohn, that Florida Highway Patrol troopers were called to the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash in the Heritage Park subdivision at about 4:40 p.m. today; the victim was the 16 year-old son of a St Johns County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section Coordinator.

The driver, Mark Allen Ochkie, Jr., who resides at 809 Pine Park Lane in St Augustine, was wearing his helmet as he traveled northbound on Hefferon Drive, according to the crash report.

As the 2010 Kawsaki Ninja motorcycle rounded a right curve, Ochkie drove left — crossing the curb into median. The left side of motorcycle side-swiped a palm tree; sending Ochkie and his bike into a counter-clockwise spin. Then the right side struck the next palm tree, bringing the bike to its final rest.

The teenaged Ochkie was transported to Flagler Hospital in St Augustine where he was pronounced dead.

According to the traffic homicide report, toxicology reports have been requested to determine if alcohol played a part in the late afternoon crash.
