Operating out of “an abundance of caution”, Sheriff’s Commander Charles E. Mulligan reported to Historic City News that deputies, on foot and on all-terrain vehicles, combed the woods along I-95 between SR-207 and SR-16, northbound, in response to a call that a woman might be in danger.
A couple reported seeing a white van stopped on the shoulder of the Interstate shortly before 3:00 p.m. yesterday.
“The complainant told us that they observed five black men carrying a white woman from the area where the van was stopped into the woods line,” Mulligan said. “We continued our search until nightfall and resumed at daybreak this morning.”
Mulligan told Historic City News reporters that, so far, the search team has not located anything suspicious or any evidence that a crime has occurred. There have been no similar incident reports or sightings.
The only description of the woman was that she was wearing “bright clothing”. The couple says that they did not note the license plate on the van, or if it had one.
Mulligan asked that if any Historic City News reader saw any suspicious activity yesterday afternoon along I-95, between SR-207 and SR-16, that they contact the sheriff’s office by calling 904-824-8304 as the search continues.
