Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that a man has surrendered to police tactical teams called from the St. Augustine Police Department and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at 38 White Street today at about 3:53 p.m.
Upon arrival, Officer Chris Miller spoke to the complainant who alleged that she and her boyfriend, 32 year-old Kurt Roger Wright, had an altercation.
Wright’s girlfriend told police that Wright locked her out of their home and was still inside and in possession of two guns — a rifle and a revolver.
According to the Wright’s girlfriend, there is a protection order against Wright which prohibits him from possessing or purchasing firearms or other weapons. The girlfriend also told police that there is an outstanding warrant for Wright’s arrest for violation of probation. The warrant was confirmed by police.
Although police say that Wright would not communicate with them at first, Wright did communicate with the tactical team officers after they arrived; and, he eventually surrendered.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that a search was done of his residence and police found both the rifle and the revolver. Wright was taken into custody and charged with domestic battery and violation of an injunction.
